Madelene Ross Design Studio brings modern functionality to vintage and historically sensitive homes in the sunny state of California. One way Madelene—founder and principal designer of this firm—does this is by assisting clients to find those special pieces that satisfy the need for both form and function. Her goal is to source items that make each space she designs unique. She’s found that vintage items, such as lighting, are an affordable and sustainable way to accomplish this.
Pair of overscaled schoolhouse style pendants | Loryelle De La Peña
This vintage pair of overscaled schoolhouse style pendants from Belgium is an excellent example. Madelene specially chose these fixtures for a kitchen in an oceanside town house, combining vintage charm with modern functionality in her modern bistro design concept.
At an architectural salvage store, Madelene stumbled upon a petite 1920s fluted glass pendant which she selected to use for the kitchen in a gorgeously renovated mid-century ranch-style home.

For another mid-century ranch-style house in California, Madelene found a pair of tall, mid-century modern lamps at an estate sale which provided a timeless aesthetic to the client’s living room.
Madelene’s vintage lighting selections are truly unique, timeless, and sustainable additions to every space.
